Equine Services for Heroes

Since 2009, MTR has been proud to honor and serve our nation’s veterans, active-duty military personnel, and first responders through our Equine Services for Heroes program.

This program is more than just time spent with horses, it’s a chance to reconnect, recharge, and rediscover purpose. Whether participants are seeking camaraderie, a renewed sense of service, or a new physical challenge, the experience at MTR is designed to support the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

Thanks to generous community support, all sessions are offered at no cost to participants.

Through equine-assisted therapies and community engagement opportunities, participants work with our trusted equine partners, experienced staff, and dedicated volunteers to gain emotional, cognitive, social, and physical benefits.

MTR employs experienced staff who have received training, military-designated certifications, and proven competencies in working with the military, veteran, and first responder populations. The Equine Services for Heroes program is a needs-based initiative offering no-cost therapy services to eligible participants in mental health therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy. Services are available on a weekly basis or as Day on the Farm events. Volunteer and service opportunities are also available to participants looking for a renewed sense of purpose. Participants interested in enrolling in our recreational Adaptive Riding and Horsemanship program will be responsible for program fees and receive priority placement on the waiting list.

MTR is honored to partner with Ft. Meade, the Navy Exceptional Family Members Program, the Wounded Warrior Project, and other organizations to expand our reach. Whether it’s reconnecting with others, rediscovering physical strength, or simply finding peace in the presence of a horse, Equine Services for Heroes provides a powerful and healing experience for those who have given so much.
