Education & Mentoring

MTR is committed to fostering the next generation of equine-assisted services providers.

Learning goes beyond knowledge; it’s about gaining deeper insight into the life-changing work of equine-assisted services and the roles our human and equine teams play in that transformation.

We foster a culture of growth where continuous learning and professional development are woven into everything we do. Our leadership team models this commitment through ongoing certification and a dedication to best practices.

This focus not only strengthens our programs, it drives innovation, elevates industry standards, and ensures we’re preparing the next generation of professionals through intentional mentorship and a shared pursuit of excellence.

MTR is proud to lead by example, advancing the field of equine-assisted services through knowledge, care, and community.

Barn University

For adults looking to expand their knowledge of horse care and the equine mind within equine-assisted services.

At MTR, we believe the heart of our programs starts in the barn. That’s why we created Barn University, part of our unmounted learning series designed for volunteers and community members who want to connect more deeply with our horses and expand their horsemanship knowledge beyond the saddle.

Whether you’re brushing up on equine care or just beginning your journey, these sessions offer hands-on learning led by credentialed professionals and experienced equine educators. From herd dynamics to health care and training techniques, each class is an opportunity to learn directly from our incredible herd members.

You’ll walk away with practical skills, a stronger connection to the horses you support, and a renewed appreciation for the vital role they play in every MTR program.

Barn University Topics Include:

Equine Behavioral Science with Dr. CJ from Chesapeake Equine Performance
