Preparations are underway for MTR’s 14th annual benefit concert. This fundraiser is MTR’s signature event and is known as the premier benefit concert in the area. Traditionally it has been held from 5:30pm to 10:00pm on a Friday or Saturday evening in September on MTR’s 25-acre farm in the indoor riding arena which holds approximately 850 attendees. The evening includes silent and live auctions. Past performers have included Lee Greenwood, The Oak Ridge Boys, Kathy Mattea and Ricky Skaggs. Headliners typically perform a 90-minute set beginning at 8:30pm. Local favorites The Hard Travelers have been the opening act since the concert’s inception. Ticket prices last year were $65 for General Admission and $125 for VIP which included a Meet & Greet with the artists at a pre-concert reception.

The Hard Travelers

For more than 40 years, The Hard Travelers have been delighting audiences from DC to Japan. The Hard Travelers appeared in the Washington, D.C. area at the Cellar Door and the Live Eye, where artists like John Denver, the Mama and Papas, and Bill Cosby got their start. The Travelers are dedicated to finding ways to use their music as a vehicle to make a difference in the world. Over eleven million dollars have been raised for various charities. They have been joined by such renowned artists as Emmylou Harris, Alabama, Kathy Mattea, John Denver, Kenny Rogers, Alan Jackson, Martina McBride and Reba McEntire. Musically they have evolved from Pure Folk to Folk-Bluegrass to Folk-Country, and now have a unique quality of their own. Kenn Roberts, Mack Bailey, Mike Munford, Jon Glik, Ira Gitlin, and Marc MacGlashan are the current members. For more information, go to www.mackbaily.com/hard_travelers.htm
